Residents will vote in an important election on November 7 – one that will shape both our community and our schools. Voters will elect four ward council members and three school board members.
What’s at stake? The very fabric of how we live our lives and educate our children here in Hudson. Let’s take a closer look.
Role of City Council – And why it matters.
City council passes laws and enacts policies that directly impact all of us. From zoning regulations to public roads and safety measures, councilors shape how we live in Hudson. Their decisions impact your quality of life, your city taxes, even your property values.
They do this by overseeing a $20 million annual budget, allocating funds to various city departments and community initiatives. For example, they decide how much to spend on infrastructure such as roads, public services, environmental programs and business development efforts. They determine which roads get fixed, which developments get developed, the budget for police and safety, and initiatives to add another park, trail or parking lot. In short, they put into place the policies and laws that can affect you directly and indirectly. Every. Single. Day.
With so much at stake, it’s important to be informed – and to vote for the candidates that best align with your values and your vision for Hudson’s future.
Role of School Board Members – And why it matters.
A school board member’s role extends beyond administration to actually shaping the learning experience for our children.
One of their primary responsibilities is to establish educational policies that reflect the community’s values and expectations. These policies cover a wide range of issues, such as curriculum development, school budgets, hiring and evaluating personnel, student discipline, teaching methods and the adoption of new technologies.
In short, they create the environment that prepares students for success in an ever-changing world. They also ensure the responsible allocation of financial resources. School Board members must balance the needs of the students and teachers with the available funding, ensuring that schools have the necessary resources to provide a high-quality education.
The bottom line: Voting for school board members, gives residents to help shape the educational experience, and the values, they want for their children. What could be more important?
